linda taylor associates wins North West Business Award

june 2007

North West Recruitment & Training Consultants Linda Taylor Associates scooped a top award at the Region's Annual Business Awards 2007. Award categories were sponsored by National Businesses 02 and the Royal Bank of Scotland along with regional organisations such as Accountants CLB Coopers and Lythgoe Motors. The judges awarded this year's prestigious Family Business of the Year Award, sponsored by Warburtons Bakery, to mother and daughter business Linda Taylor Associates.

The family run business unit has much to offer and although more than 90% of business enterprises in the United States are family owned, the UK percentage is considerably lower. Building a family business incorporates values which attract employees such as loyalty, stability and common values, sharing the same ethos and beliefs on how things should be done gives staff an extra sense of purpose and pride and the outcome is a business with a very competitive edge.

The business, run by Chairman Linda and her daughter Kate Taylor Shaw, Managing Director, has branches in Swinton and Bolton town centres and the whole team are delighted with the Award, which celebrates the unique place held by family businesses in today's marketplace. Linda says "As a family who work together, we find it second nature to incorporate family-friendly values into the business. We have a strong team culture that abhors internal rivalry and our honest, down-to-earth approach to customers is a philosophy that has served us well over the years. Statistics show that family businesses make up 60% of UK businesses with only 25% making it to the next generation. With two grandchildren under 3 years old it's a little early to start priming the next generation but we'll be encouraging any early signs of entrepreneurship!"

linda taylor associates wins Government award for age diversity

september 2004

Swinton & Bolton based recruitment company, linda taylor associates, has been awarded a prestigious Government award for their efforts in promoting age diversity in the workplace.

The Recruitment Excellence Awards recognise recruitment companies and individuals who have a positive attitude towards age. The awards are run by Age Positive, the government campaign tackling age discrimination in the workplace.

Linda Taylor, Chairman of linda taylor associates, said that it was a great honour to be recognised for our efforts in dispelling ageist myths. linda taylor associates won the award in the 10-99 category.

"To us it has always been clear that honesty, quality and equal opportunity are the necessary foundations for success in personnel solutions. As a recruiter and Age Positive Employer Champion, we are in a key position to break down false prejudices on which age discrimination is built. It makes good business sense to recognise and acknowledge the benefits of employing both older and younger people.

We encourage our contemporaries to start examining their own policies now in readiness for 2006, when the anti discrimination laws will include ageism" said Linda.

Malcolm Wicks, Minister for Pensions, who spearheads the Age Positive campaign: "The response to the awards has been tremendous, with strong entries across all the categories. This is a true testament to the hard work and effort that the recruitment industry is putting in to change ageist stereotypes and some employers' antiquated attitudes.

Recruitment consultants are in the compelling position to educate their clients about the benefits of embracing diversity in the workplace in the fullest sense of the word. They must continue to seize the opportunities to do so and encourage applicants to apply for jobs on the basis of their abilities - rather than their date of birth.

I would like to congratulate this year's Recruitment Excellence Awards winners, who are leading the way and who have demonstrated that being age positive makes sense for everyone."

age positive minister visits swinton office to present Age Positive Champion certificate

november 2003

Age Positive Minister, Malcolm Wicks, has hailed linda taylor associates as an Age Positive Champion. He presented a certificate in recognition of it's enlightened approach to age diversity and older workers.

In Britain today, nearly one in four people are unable to get a job due to one of the least known forms of discrimination. It isn't because of their sex or race or disability but because they are considered "too old" or "too young". The Government Age positive campaign is seeking to change this, by eradicating outdated stereotypes and encouraging employers to adopt good age practices for the benefit of their businesses and individuals.

Minister Malcolm Wicks said: "What's important is that the right people get the job based on their ability, not their age. To fight this, we need more Age Positive Champions - organisations such as Linda Taylor Associates - that support the campaign and can demonstrate a commitment to Age Positive in both principle and practice".

Accepting the certificate Linda said: "Being age-positive is something that has always come naturally to us in our business dealings, we have a strong reputation for submitting candidates based on their skills and experience ONLY. Winning the Government's Age Positive Award in 2001 was a great boost for us and we were thrilled and proud when Malcolm Wicks took the time to visit us in person, to present us with a certificate to recognise our selection as an Age Positive Champion."
